Aileen Wrennall, GSWA, Professional Watercolour Artist.

Welcome to my Website and On-line Gallery

I hope you enjoy looking at my paintings, cards and prints.

I am mainly a self-taught artist and watercolour is my favourite medium. I like nothing better than to allow the water to carry the paint across the paper into unpredictable shapes, patterns and colour combinations. Love of shapes and colour probably comes from my early work as a photographer in a graphic design company, producing high quality striking images for many different types of clients.

During this time I attended classes in life drawing, portraiture and painting at various Glasgow colleges, including the Glasgow School of Art. I further enhanced my painting skills and knowledge of techniques by painting in the UK and abroad with Charles Reid, one of the foremost American water colourists. I also paint regularly in the UK and France with Shirley Trevena, whose fabulous watercolours were part of my original inspiration to paint. I have also undertaken courses in Art History through Oxford University. In 2008 I was elected as an artist member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists.

I usually begin my paintings by placing two colours beside each other to see how they work together and gradually adding others. Flowers with their amazing shapes and colour combinations and can be another inspiration for paintings. My love of unusual shapes and exciting colours means I am constantly buying objects to put into paintings. Combining these, with ideas and memories from my travels, leads to me painting scenes that are evocative of relaxing or romantic places, where I want the viewer to feel able to walk into the location and make it their own.

I now paint full time and have sold successfully both privately and in exhibitions at home and abroad. Several commercial card publishers have selected my work for their collections.

Most of my paintings are For Sale in the Gallery as originals, high quality prints or cards. If you have any questions or comments on my work or individual paintings, or would like to buy originals or prints, please feel free to use the shopping facility or contact me using the form provided on the Contact Us page.
